Travis Johnson took down the three day Event #7 at the World Series of Poker – the $1,500 No-Limit Texas Hold’em event. And no, we’re not talking about the Houston Texans’ defensive tackle.
Johnson is a first time bracelet winner, notching a $666,000 payday (which he’ll be splitting with the devil? – ed). I’m sure that’s not such a scary number when it’s going into your bankroll.
2971 players started the three days, with Day 2 going all the way until 3am. That’s some serious patience. If I’m in a game past 9:30 it’s tough to not push, repeatedly.
Johnson, on the other hand, waited it out and got into the heads up action against Steve Karp with a nearly 2-1 chip advantage that he never relinquished.
These massive-field, low buy in events pull in a huge range of players. Guys that come in from online satellites, cash gamers, you name it. To make it through, and win a WSOP bracelet, takes some cards, a sick run and definite talent. Congrats to Travis.
