LithuaniaFlagFor all of you who think that a real sport has to involve a ball or running around an oval countless times…..think again because Lithuanians are making the case that poker is a sport too.  In fact, they’ve went as far as to declare poker a sport in the country of Lithuania.

This recently happened when Lithuania’s Department of Physical Education and Sports declared that the Lithuanian Sports Federation is a real operation – basically, this means that they’re saying poker is now a sport in the country.

The president of the Lithuanian Sports Poker Federation, Andrius Tapinas, expressed his gratitude about poker now being an official sport in the country by saying, “This is an extremely important step in our work.  We are receiving congratulations from many of our colleagues abroad and I know that we are breaking thick ice with our progress for similar international initiatives.”

The good news about this is that there will be virtually no restrictions in Lithuania when it comes to playing poker.  People will be able to organize tournaments in lots of different settings now and not just in casinos.  Plus other countries may see what Lithuania has done and take note of this when deciding what to do about the restrictions they’ve imposed on the game.  It would be especially nice if places like the United States took notice of Lithuanian’s actions.  Maybe a possible bid for poker to be an Olympic sport is in the works?

But for right now, it’s just good to see that a country would think highly enough of poker to declare it a sport.  I’m sure that Lithuanian poker pro Tony G is smiling somewhere over this decision.

sngleaderboard_smlSit and go’s are already an extremely popular poker tournament format because they’re quick and lots of fun to play.  But sit and go’s only become more fun when you throw a monthly leaderboard race into the mix that rewards a total of $10,000.

To get a piece of the $10,000 that’s awarded every month, all you have to do is place somewhere within the top 25 players on the SNG Leaderboard.  The amount of money you earn will of course depend on where you finish in the top 25, but as long as you’re in one of these spots you will be getting paid.

The great thing is that the $10,000 isn’t the only money given out through the SNG Leaderboard since another $2,000 will be given away based on your streak bonus.  If you’re able to string together several sit and go wins, your leaderboard prize money will be multiplied based on your best win streak of the month.

Obviously, not all SNG’s are going to be equal when deciding who lands in the top 25 so allow me to explain how the points system works.  Every time you finish in the money in a sit and go, you will earn points towards the leaderboard.  The higher your placing and the higher the buy-in of the tournament, the more points you’ll receive.  For instance, a $20 + $2 SNG is going to award a lot more points than a $5 + $0.50 SNG considering the places are the same.

So the basic formula for figuring your SNG points is: √buy-in X your final placing bonus.  To illustrate this formula at work, let’s say you finished first in a $10 + $1 sit and go (√100 X 12).  Using this formula, you would earn 120 points on the SNG Leaderboard and be that much closer to grabbing a share of the $10,000.  Simply put: you need to play in sit and go’s and place well to win major cash.

wsop chipsThis Sunday at Carbon Poker, French poker player mesut54000 took down the WSOP Grand Final – $12,500 Seat Guaranteed Tournament. As the name of the tourney suggests, mesut5400 walked away from the virtual felt with a $12,500 package that includes a $10,000 buy in for the 2010 WSOP Main Event.

The $420 + $40 buy in tournament brought in 33 players, including some of Carbon’s best players. There were numerous seat winners in attendance, including a stacked final table.

In the final 11 players we had heavy hitters like:

LTUFlawless – 2nd (Aus Mills, WSOP)

bullitpete – 5th (WSOP – EPT – Aus Mills)

vader46 – 6th (Aus Mills – MTT LB winner)

foxyuk – 10th (Aus Mills – EPT – WSOP)

1GOLDENBEAR1 – 11th (Aus Mills)

DrextheTex – 12th – (Aus Mills – WSOP)

All of them had already won a live seat through Carbon Poker tournaments, and many of them have done it more than once.

LTUFlawless won $952 in second place.

Congrats to mesut5400. We’ll be sending more players to represent CarbonPoker at the WSOP, so don’t miss out on your chance to hit the tables and come out with a $12,500 prize.

bad beat jackpotAWESOME UPDATE: in the past 12 months, CarbonPoker has paid out $2,833,938.01 to our Bad Beat Jackpot winners and losers.

Just as the famous Carbon Poker Bad Beat Jackpot hit $300,000, five lucky winners brought it right back down.

On the flop, medman08 had 4 Aces and WizAlex0 had 3 9s. The Turn completed WizAlex0′s 4 of a kind (9s), and both players were obviously all-in. The pot was a paltry $277, but the payout was extreme. WizAlex0 took down $105,723 as the hand’s loser and medman08 won $52,862.

Let’s not forget about the three others at the table who won $17,621 for their troubles (folding).

For those of you that don’t know, the Carbon Poker Bad Bead Jackpot goes off when a hand of Quad 7s or higher gets beaten — keep in mind that this is the lowest qualifier online.

Payout:

  • WizAlex0 Wins $105,723.46 (Bad Beat Loser)
  • medman08 Wins $52,861.73 (Bad Beat Winner)
  • RMaroni Wins $17,620.57 (Bad Beat Other)
  • Market6226 Wins $17,620.57  (Bad Beat Other)
  • OneFatDog Wins $17,620.57 (Bad Beat Other)

2010 at CarbonYou don’t need to go all the way to Vancouver this month for Olympic glory. At CarbonPoker, for the entire month of February, you can compete against the rest of the field in two Olympic-themed events for a chance to win tons of great prizes.

And the best part? No spandex required… or frost bite.

Basically, there are two leader board events to play in: the Olympics Alpine Poker Championship (Multi-Table Tournament Leader Board) and the Nordic Combined Poker Championship (VIP Point accumulation leader board). Play in one or both. Seriously… it’s up to you. What am I, your mom?

What’s up for grabs? I’m glad you asked:

Compete in the final tournaments of each event for thousands of dollars, Live WSOP Seats, exclusive Olympic accolades and CarbonPoker coupons. To me, that’s a lot better than freezing outside, or throwing myself down an icetrack at 150MPH. But again, you could do both. It’s up to you.

Check out the official Carbon Olympics page for the breakdown of prizes, events and leader board spots.

cash_pileHyun503 turned $60 into $62,960 while playing Caribbean Stud poker right here at Carbon. That’s a pretty huge swing in less than 5 seconds.

This player is obviously ecstatic now and can barely believe hitting the bonus on a $5 hand.

When reached for comment, hyun503 said:

“I have no clue what to think right now. It’s just crazy! I just wanted to take it in right now and relax for the next couple days.”

Just another example of a happy winner of our industry-leading jackpots.

Want to get in on the action and grab a massive jackpot? Check out the Bad Beat Tables or the $1 and $5 Caribbean Stud games. Don’t forget to place the jackpot bet, or you could miss out on thousands!
