carbonpokerpicOk boys and girls. Sit around and let me tell you a story about how Ween10 won $257,089.81 by losing a hand of poker.

Sounds crazy right? Well, as I told you earlier, the Bad Beat Jackpot paid out last night at CarbonPoker and Ween10 is one happy, happy loser.

Here’s the hand breakdown that lead to the mega payout:

Bucksfan1384 Wins $18,363.55 from the Bad Beat Jackpot (Bad Beat Other)
michael008 Wins $18,363.55 from the Bad Beat Jackpot (Bad Beat Other)

Personally, I could really go for $18K for just sitting there while other players get Quads. Really, I could.

Track the Bad Beat Jackpot in real time at CarbonPoker. It’s just a little guy right now, starting out at about $147K. Still decent.

As you may remember, earlier this year, the BBJ paid out at over $1.2Million — a world record. Some student in NY won about $500K.  All this cash flying around makes me wish I’d start losing the right way.

badbeatjackpotBig News!

The CarbonPoker Bad Beat Jackpot has paid out again. This time, over $514,000 was awarded to a lucky table of players after Quad Queens beat Quad 7’s.

As you guys know, the Bad Beat Jackpot pays out after a hand of Quad 7’s or better loses at the table. This is pretty insane.

The “loser” of the hand, Ween10, was awarded $257,089.81 for losing with a no-brainer.

Kdawg1979 took down about $60 from the pot and a sweet $128,544.90 with his share of the BBJ.

The seven other players that were just sitting there each took over $18K. Nice day at the tables, right?

In some heartwarming poker news, this is what kdawg1979 had to say:

“I also just wanted to let you know that two or three nights ago, I played in a freeroll, came in third and won five bucks. I got it up to $60 and went to the Bad Beat tables for about two hours and hit it for $128,000. I’ve never made a deposit and I’ve never had so much money before!”

kdawg1979 continued on, “It all came from the freeroll. I’m happy with my winnings. Thank you! It came at the right time. I have three boys and a wife. We were literally getting evicted. This was a blessing from God. Thank you again, Merge”

I love when promotions like this go off. A hand that started out like any other turns into a pretty monumental moment for all 9 players at the table.

I’ll be posting more on this later on today. Keep a look out!

badbeatjackpotAfter already breaking the Bad Beat Jackpot world record earlier this year with almost $1,200,000 for the beat (paying out $417,396 to one New York student), CarbonPoker’s healthiest Jackpot is on the move again.

At close to ¾ of a million bucks, the BBJ is getting heavy and starting to bulge at the seams. At the time of writing this, the jackpot was sitting at $728,036.82. Whoa.

How it Pays Out
If you’re playing on a Bad Beat table at CarbonPoker and lose with a hand of Quad 7’s or better, the Jackpot goes off.

Chips will literally be falling from the ceiling of the poker client.

Breakdown of Payment Structure

  • 35% to the Happy “Loser”
  • 20% to Reseeding the Jackpot (we’ve got to keep it going!)
  • 17.5% to the Still Happy “Winner” (the guy who beat your quads, or got a higher straight flush, etc)
  • 17.5% to Other Very Happy Players (must be deal in, not sitting out)
  • 10% to Merge Gaming

Now, I’m not an advocate of hoping-to-lose, but for this it really seems worthwhile. Next time you’re coming into a showdown with an absolute monster, you just might be hoping to see something better.

It’s that old standard poker story:

  • Delaware state trooper plays in high stakes poker game
  • Three masked gunmen enter the room
  • Said trooper assists in “1st-degree robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony”
  • Idiots get busted, plead guilty
  • Six years in jail for everyone!

This is pretty wild west for the great state of Delaware. If anything, this is good for their street cred.

The incident took place at the Wild Quail Country Club in February of last year. HyunJin Kim (the former trooper) says he’s sorry. So there’s that. Sentencing was carried out yesterday. So for the next six years, Kim will be playing for cigarettes and pretending he wasn’t a cop before landing in jail.

Lesson learned: watch your back in Delaware and lock the door while playing for high stakes. It must be a lot safer to play online… obviously.

$1,192,560.60 Bad beat jackpot pays out $417, 396 to New Yorker

Six others also Share Record Jackpot!

February 13th, 2009 – One lucky player on the Merge Gaming Poker network from New York has just broken the world record for a bad beat jackpot proving Friday 13th is not so unlucky for some. The lucky player scooped $417,396 with the total Jackpot hitting a staggering $1.2m. The jackpot has already been reseeded and currently stands at $240,000.

Player RUGGIO scooped the World record prize by being beaten on the lowest stake jackpot table where blinds start at $0.50/$1. He held a straight flush from 7 to Jack of hearts. He was “beaten” by AELANI who was holding the Queen and King of Hearts giving him a higher Straight Flush. AELANI still took down $208,698 for his part. All the other five players on the table received $41,739 for just being there.

Ruggio holding 8,7 of hearts saw the flop come 3d, 9h Jh, sensing he needed any heart for a flush & the 10h for a straight flush he called AELANI’s $4 bet. The turn card fell a Queen of clubs, AELANI bet out $8, which was swiftly called. The river fell 10 hearts giving RUGGIO the straight flush, at this point he is thinking about how he has AELANI beat. AELANI bets out $20, which RUGGIO raised to $35, AELANI then re-raises all in which was called. To RUGGIO’s horror AELANI turned over Queen and King of hearts giving him a higher straight flush. His horror soon to turned to joy when he realized he had scooped $417,396 and the chips began raining down on his screen.

“My first reaction when I saw that I hit a piece of the Jackpot was ‘oh my God’, I am paying for college completely on my own through student loans so first and foremost I thought about how I would be able to pay off all my student loans and start my life in the real world debt-free.” AELANI, from Northwestern University, Chicago said of his win.

“Congratulations to all players who made this a part of history and share in the jackpot of almost $1,200,000, however, the fun is not over, the bad beat has been reseeded and is already sitting at $240,000.” commented Jay Manning, a Carbon spokesman. “We are thrilled that the Bad Beat has gone off and we have set a new bar for the industry. We never envisaged the Bad beat would take so long to hit, after all we have the lowest qualifying hand anywhere online”, said Manning.

The Bad Beat Jackpot, first introduced by Carbon Poker in mid 2008, this is the first pay out since its introduction, is seeded by $0.50 from every pot on all listed Bad Beat tables and pays out when a hand of quad 7’s or better is busted. Currently, this is the lowest qualifying hand for a bad beat in the online industry.

The Bad Beat Jackpot isn’t the only thing happening at Carbon Poker, with the highly anticipated 4.5 version of their gaming platform to be launched 1st March. The new software, which features an advanced mini mode and table customizer also coincides with the release of the new VIP program that will incorporate a brand new online store. “It’s a very exciting time at Carbon Poker, a lot is happening, the players love it and they are tuning in to what we are doing.” stated Manning.

Only a day after the Bad Beat Jackpot surpassed the $800,000 mark it had its closest call yet.
Im sure that its well known that you have to have quad 7′s or better busted to have the jackpot pay out, so when a player had quad 6′s busted by a straight flush, the tension must have been at a definitive high.

Taking place on the infamous Bad Beat La Grand Place table at the $.50/$1 stakes, it started with Shoe12 being dealt pocket sixes. The action starts with a fold, a call from Clintasaurus, a raise by Shoe12and two callers. The flop falls 10 4♠ and 6♠. Destroyerhere leads the betting with top pair – 10♣ and A in his hand. Clintasaurus raises on a straight flush draw and and Shoe12 with a set of sixes makes the call followed by destroyerhere.

The turn – 5♠.

Top pair for destroyer, a straight flush for Clintasaurus and trips for Shoe12.

Destroyer leads of with a check, Clintasaurus slowplays and continues the check, to Shoe12 who bets twice the blind. Destroyer folds as Clintasaurus makes the call. The River comes – 6♣

Clintasaurus checks, followed by a bet by Shoe12, a raise by Clintasaurus, two more re-raises take place before Shoe12 pushes all in. Clintasaurus makes the call to show 8♠7♠ as shoe turns quad sixes.

Unlucky Shoe12, and well played Clintasaurus. The Bad Beat marches on!
