Bartyuk: 4450
lennie10: 29,000
miw210: 46,000
pelicancruse: 27,000

Average stack 25,400

212 out of 270 players remain.

We’ve started Level 4 now and chip counts are still steady. bartyuk needs a bit of help from the deck, but it’s not lost yet.

miw210 picked up a hand holding pocket Nines. The flop came down 3 6 Q, and he bet out approximately 2000. The button calls, and we see the turn card, which is the valuable 9. miw210 slow-played his set by checking, and the button bets 2500. miw210 re-raises to 6000 and is called. The river was a blank, and out comes a bet of 10,000 from miw210. The button calls, and flips pockets Sixes for a flopped set, but miw210‘s Nine on the utrn gave him a higher set and a huge pot!

Bartyuk has found a pro at his table by the name of Brad Booth. You’ll find Booth on the popular poker show High Stakes Poker, regularly sitting in with the likes of Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu. Booth has been putting the rest of the table through its paces, and bartyuk has slipped to 9000 chips.

Meanwhile, lennie10 has torn it up, flopping the nuts on this next key hand. Holding 53o in the big blind, two limpers came in and lennie10 checked it. The flop comes A 2 4, giving our hero the absolute nut straight. lennie10 bets out 500 and was called by one other player. The turn was checked around, and a bet of 3000 was fired on the river by lennie10. His opponent called, and showed pocket Deuces for a flopped set. Not good enough against a straight!

An incident occurred at a random table involved a misdeal. Three players to the flop of Q K Q, and the first bets out. The second player folds, after which the dealer begins the push the pot towards the first player, not realising the third player is still in the hand. As the pot is pushed, the bettor turns up AK just before the third player protested that he was still in!

The tournament director is called over, and after discussion it was ruled that the hand must continue with the AK face up, while the other player needn’t show their hand. Disaster was averted, however, as it was checked all the way down and the AK held up against AT.

Current chip counts:

lennie10: 34,000
miw210: 40,000
bartyuk: 9,000
pelicancruse: 10,000

Average stack is approximately 22,000.

Level 3 has commenced with blinds at 100/200, 25 ante.

lennie10 picked up KdKs, while his opponent held KhKc. The pot was going to be a split…or was it? Both players raised, and ended up getting in for 1800 each. The flop came down 7d6d6s, and lennie10 bet out 2000, which his opponent called.

The turn was the 8d, and lennie10‘s opponent check-called 4000. The river was the 3d, which made lennie10 the flush, overcoming his opponent’s equal hand! Both players checked, and lennie10 gathered up a huge pot.

252 players remain at the early stages of Level 2.

Before the end of Level 1, pelicancruse picked up pocket Jacks, but ran up against pocket Queens. Only down to 16,000 chips, and it could have turned out much worse!

Bartyuk picked up the rockets on the button, two players limp in and he raises 2000 to go. Both players call, which spells possible bad news. Flop comes K Q 5, and the early limper bets 1000. The second limper folds and Bartyuk calls. Blank, check check on the turn. The river is a King, and the opponent fires out 2000, which Bartyuk calls. Bartyuk lost a huge pot to a set of Kings.

On the next hand, however, Bartyuk flopped a King-high flush, and managed to grab a few chips back.

miw420 continues to accumulate chips, now holding 29,000. lennie10 is still around the starting point, holding 19,800. The average stack is currently around 25,000.

The prize pool has just been announced, with $7.8 million ready to be paid out to 80 of 780 entrants in this year’s event. First place will pick up AUD$1,650,000, while second place walks away with a cool million. Every player in the room now has their eyes set on the prize.

The first few hands have been dealt, and miw420 is already up to 25,000. An opponent in early position raised and miw420 made it 1200 to go. One played called, and the flop came down 6 9 3 rainbow. miw420 bet out 2000 and was met with a fold. A nice pot for the first hand of the day!

lennie10 is also up to 23,000 chips early, and bartyuk is up to 22,000. pelicancruse has lost 500, but this certainly isn’t a cause for concern so early in the day.

Great start to the day, while Lee Nelson and Kenny Ng are up to 30,000 and 32,000 chips respectively.

More to come.

The Aussie Millions is underway, with many players coming up winners in the preliminary events – including CarbonPoker’s Alex Luck. The perennial popularity of poker has even attracted the glitz of Hollywood, with a number of stars touching down in Australia to get ready for the main event.

Shannon Elizabeth of American Pie fame has been known to move around the tournament circuit, and she has already hit the tables at the Crown Casino, Melbourne. Cashing in several events around the world so far, Elizabeth will definitely be a threat at the tables on monday.

Also spotted in Melbourne was Phil Laak and his partner, actress Jennifer Tilly, also a poker player. Is poker more popular than Hollywood? Laak has been recognized by fans faster than Tilly!

Finally, tennis star Andy Roddick is also down under for a chance to play at the tables when away from the courts at the Australian Open Championships. CarbonPoker team will also be at the Aussie Millions, so we’ll try and have some happy snaps of all the biggest names, including our own online qualifiers!

Our schedule is pumping right now. It’s after Christmas, early January – most people are content to relax and have a nice quiet start to the New Year…but not those in the world of poker!

We’re pretty excited about all the upcoming live events this year, including the Aussie Millions over the next few weeks, and the upcoming 2008 World Series of Poker. In fact, there’s no better way to kick off the year than award a free $12,500 seat to one of our players.

Throughout December, new players were invited to make an initial deposit, and those who qualified were then entered into the Choose Your Own Seat freeroll, with the winner-takes-all prize being a seat of their choosing to any major buy-in event in the world. The CYOS tournament had 102 players, and only one was to emerge victorious.

Heads-up play started just before the four hour mark, with HMurmeli and Josekk beginning their battle. 20 hands later, the winner was decided.

With blinds at 2000/4000, Josekk raised to 6000 with K7 and HMurmeli called with QT. The flop was the breaking point, as both players flopped a pair, and both went all in. Josekk‘s pair of Kings held up against HMurmeli‘s Queens, and Josekk found himself winning the grand prize of a $12,500 tournament package for just one initial deposit!

Not too shabby for a 21 year old university student. Josekk can now choose his destination worldwide, and we will keep you posted about his progress, along with many of our other live seat winners, as 2008 continues.
