Sequel to Rounders? Let’s Hope so……

Posted by PokerPop on 17th December 2010

As we all know, pretty much every poker movie outside of Rounders sucks. And since it seems like it will be forever (if ever) before we see this rumored online poker film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, we don’t really have a whole lot to look forward to on the poker movie front……..until now.

Miramax has officially announced that plans for a Rounders sequel is in the works. Unfortunately, we don’t have a whole lot of information on the Rounders sequel including what the plot is, who the actors will be and if it will be another take on the original. However, one thing we do know is that the biggest stars of Rounders – Matt Damon and Edward Norton Jr. – have said they wouldn’t mind doing a sequel. If this is the case, Rounders 2 stands stands a great chance of being successful.

Getting back to Miramax’s announcement, their official statement said, “Miramax and The Weinstein Company today announced an agreement to create sequels to some of Miramax’s best-known properties and to partner on potential new television shows and special edition home entertainment products. The first films to be produced under the agreement will be sequels to Bad Santa, Rounders and Shakespeare in Love.”

I can’t say that I’m thrilled about the Shakespeare in Love sequel, nor do I know how this story could be further expanded upon, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Bad Santa 2 and the Rounders sequel should be awesome.

The most exciting part about Rounders 2 is thinking about what angle they’ll take. Last time we left Mike McDermott, he was ditching law school for a shot at WSOP stardom. And his buddy Worm was still the same degenerate loser as before – expect for the fact that he was a degenerate with all of his gambling debts paid off. It will definitely be interesting to see where these characters are at now.
