Phil Ivey is one of the biggest stars in poker for a good reason. With his seventh bracelet (and second this year), Ivey took down the Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi-Low-8 or Better tournament. Buy in was $2,500 – and I’m sure the side-betting was substantially more.
Ivey entered the final table in seventh out of 8. It didn’t take him too long gain the chip lead, which happened as the table got down to five players. By the time there were four left, Ivey had more than half of the chips.
He played his patented brand of aggressively calculated poker and didn’t relinquish the lead once he had gained it.
Phil took down over $220K for the event.
This win puts Phil into sixth on the all-time list, tying him with Billy Baxter.

It comes as no surprise that Mr. Ivey continues to win bracelets – especially at the more “larger luck involved” games. His aggressive style is perfectly matched with his hit anything luck. But what caught my eye was the mentioning of Billy Baxter. Not many may know of him but all would do well to study his style. Tremendous intuition and usually only lost to a bad beat. I some him recently on a Game Show Network WPT telecast – now that’s poker folks. Mr. Ivey would do well to capture some of the enthusiam for the game that Billy B. has.
Tnx for sharing flail1. I can always enjoy Ivey but i will look some Billy B. up and see it myself.
