Watching Joe Cada win the WSOP Main Event title and Vitaly Lunkin take down $1.9 million in the 40th Anniversary Hold’em event was awesome……back in August of 09’. Unfortunately, the 2009 WSOP is as outdated as Myspace, and if I have to hear another one of Norman Chad’s corny, post-taped jokes during the 09’ WSOP, I swear I’ll snap!
Fortunately, ESPN will be airing episodes of the 210 World Series of Poker tonight beginning with the $50,000 Player’s Championship at 8pm ET. Those of you who follow poker news probably already know that Robert “The Grinder” Mizrachi won the Player’s Championship to turn his year around after having both homes taken away by the IRS. But unless you’re a crazed poker groupie, you didn’t actually get to see the action; now you can watch it on TV.
After the Player’s Championship, the next new WSOP show you’ll get to see is the Tournament of Champions on August 3rd at 8pm. This is the freeroll where most of the participants were either voted in or got in through some lame sponsorship exemption. In either case, most of poker’s best players (or rather just the richest and/or most name-worthy) were in attendance including Doyle Brunson, Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Jennifer Harman, Johnny Chan, Barry Greenstein, and Huck Seed.
Even if you don’t want to see a bunch of rich players who haven’t made any noise in a real WSOP tournament in years, you can still catch the Main Event. The first day starts on August 10th at 8pm while new episodes will run until August 24th when the November Nine is finally decided. Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait until November to see who gets the $8.94 million prize.
