Daniel Alaei picked up his second World Series of Poker bracelet in spectacular fashion – beating some of the top names in poker in the process.
Event #18 – Omaha Hi-Lo Championship came with a $10,000 buy in and decidedly stiff competition. Scott Clements, Sam Khouiss, Daniel Negreanu or Annie Duke did not intimidate Alaei on the way to his title.
Here’s how the final table began, in order of chip stack:
Seat 1: Scott Clements – 1,445,000
Seat 5: John Monnette – 940,000
Seat 8: Ben Boyd – 855,000
Seat 9: Daniel Negreanu – 635,000
Seat 3: Daniel Alaei – 540,000
Seat 4: Greg Jamison – 350,000
Seat 2: Annie Duke – 225,000
Seat 7: Tom Koral – 220,000
Seat 6: Yueqi Zhu – 170,000
After besting this field, Alaei took home the $445,898. As you can see, Daniel Alaei was out of the lead by almost a million chips. Regardless of that, he was the leader coming into heads up play against Scott Clements.
One on one action only took two hands as both went all in pre-flop. Alaei took it down and Clements left with the $275,946 consolation prize.
Alaei’s first bracelet can in Deuce-to-Seven Lowball, but this victory looks like the sweetest of the two.
