Earlier today saw the commencement of the Summer Champs tournament, with the first of 33 events kicking in to full swing. The Limit Holdem Championship format game saw a good turn out with 279 players hitting the tables to duke it out for over double the guaranteed prize pool, a considerable $5580. Now I don’t need to tell you that more players means more money means a bigger jackpot, and if the tournament continues the way it started we could see the jackpot surpassing a whopping $25000.

In the spirit of summer the final 2 players went head to head for a blistering 39 hands! Until SatanicMonkeywent all in on pocket 10’s before the turn only to be called by Scorpiossting chasing a 5 high inside straight draw. Either the sun or luck must have been shinning in his direction as Scorpiossting pulled through on the river with a 2 to claim victory with a 6 high straight draw. Congratulations to both players who both pocketed over $1000 each.

Indeed congratulations must go to all players who seated well and as usual the top seats were filled with some regular carbon poker names including DADuhWEEwah who placed 6th and Jazza32 who recently won a seat in the WSOP Carbon Poker bluff league.

Don’t forget to get in for tomorrows Omaha Pot Limit game and get your name on the leaderboard for your chance in the ‘Tournament of Champions’. Also don’t forget that winning a tournament game will score you an engraved commemorative carbon poker chip set!

Everywhere it seems the physical table is being ditched for the digital, and as players flock to online poker rooms for the excitement and convenience they offer, the community grows.

Now poker, like many online communities in order to differentiate and define themselves, over time develop much of their own terminology and traditions. While most sports and games all have a multitude of strange terms that players and fans pick up on, poker in this bloggers opinion may just trump the pack. Even seasoned players will likely be left scratching their heads by such terms as a pig, paint or runt.

Now I’m all for cool new slang and lingo that not many understand, after all its just a part of building a community. However it seems that we’ve coined a term for almost every action and hand at the table. While using the odd piece of poker terminology does make me feel like I belong at the table, that I’m a part of something, I do dread the day when someone busts out the following in the poker room chat window…

‘….the players in this house! They keep forcing me to knock, rather than straddle this street. The walking sticks I’m holding aren’t enough to trump the bullets the dealer is packing or the trip knaves that the big blind has used to open every street.’

…and yes, im still talking poker.
